Gandhian era


Mahatma Gandhi with nationalist leader Sarojini Naidu on the eve of his historic 'Dandi March' (Salt Satyagraha) that started on March 12, 1930 from the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. Sarojini Naidu was the first Indian woman to become the President of Indian National Congress and the first woman to become the governor of a state in free India. After India attained Independence in 1947 the Indian National Congress became the country's dominant political party.
